Our Meetings

The guild usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at St. Leonard’s Church at 57 Dorsey Mill Rd.,E. in Heath, Ohio. Sometimes, due to holidays, or special events like the guild banquet, the date is changed. As a member, you will be notified of date changes in the monthly newsletter and at the monthly meeting. In the winter, due to bad weather, a meeting may be cancelled. If there is a Level 2 weather advisory, our meeting is cancelled until the following month.  We start with a short business meeting, have a Show and Tell of members work, and settle into the Program for the evening.

History

Our guild was officially organized and chartered in January 1991. We are Chapter # 501-A of the National Quilting Association. The guild was founded to promote the appreciation, creation and preservation of quilting and its historical significance and value.

Membership

Membership runs from January to December and costs $24.00. Active members will have their names in the published roster, and will have the right to attend all meetings, lectures and workshops before they are open to the public. You will be provided a username and password to this website allowing membership access. Members are encouraged to serve on at least one committee or event per year. More membership information can be found in the Guild By-laws.

Programs

Each month, a program is planned that is entertaining and educational. The subjects are as varied as the interests of the members. Many times there are workshops that follow that are open only to our members. The workshops will give you a chance to try new and exciting skills.

Newsletter

You will be sent monthly, via e-mail or regular mail, a newsletter. You will be informed about guild business, board meetings, upcoming programs, etc. It is your main source of information to keep you up-to-date on all the guild activities.

Friendship Group

The guild has several friendship groups to encourage a closer relationship among members. Each group may focus on a separate aspect of quilting, such as appliqué or scrap quilts. Some of the groups are designated as “closed group” because the number of possible attendees are limited, while others are “open” to any quilter who would like to join the group. More information on the friendship groups can be found in your newsletter.

Service Groups

One of the most rewarding parts of being in the guild is working on our “service” projects. One project is “Quilts for Kids”. Quilt packets are available at each meeting that include a top, a backing and cotton batting, ready for you to quilt. Finished quilts are given to children at the Licking Memorial Hospital, Heartbeats and other organizations. Our standard service quilts are pieced and quilted and are available to anyone that is suffering an illness, a loss, or other special circumstance that a quilt would help to console them.

Charm Swap

Each month, guild members may swap 6 ½” squares of fabric. To be a part of the swap, consult the current charm square chart or your newsletter to check the fabric theme. Purchase 1 1/3 yds. of good quality, 100% cotton; wash and press it. Cut in 36, 6 1/2 “ squares and place in a resealable baggie with your name and phone number, and place in the Charm Square basket at the next monthly meeting. One month later, you’ll get your packet back with a wonderful assortment of the theme fabric. Bring as many bags of different fabric as you wish. The more participants means a wider variety of fabrics for your collection!

Mailboxes

Each month, you should check your “mailbox”. There are two files of members’ manila folders. Each month, you will have, at least, a printed copy of the “Block of the Month” in your folder.

Block of the Month

Each month, a new block is distributed in your mailbox. Choose your fabrics, and at the end of the year, you can put together a great quilt to commemorate one year of your quilting life.

Library

The guild maintains a large lending library. Ask the current librarian if we have a specific book or to bring a few books for you on a specific subject (appliqué,hand-quilting, etc.). You may keep the book for one month.

Fabric Challenge

To challenge all the quilters, identical fabric packets are available for members ready to stretch their imaginations. Challenge guidelines are included with the purchase of the fabric packet. Imagination and innovation are the inspiration for this challenge.

Quilt Retreat

Each year, a quilt retreat is held in Amish country. Rooms are available, first come, first served, but any member may attend during the day. It is a wonderful opportunity for shopping, sewing, and building quality relationships.

National Quilt Day Banquet

This special annual banquet is held every March to celebrate National Quilt Month. A luncheon and special speaker are featured. It is always one of our most special events to celebrate quilting together.

Show ‘N Tell

Probably the most inspirational part of our monthly meetings is “Show And Tell”. At the end of the business meetings, members may show their most current accomplishments. Everything from purses, clothing, table runners, quilts—are there for all to enjoy. From beginners to the most experienced, they provide us with inspiration.

As you can see, there is much to be offered by the guild. We hope you will use as many of the services available to you as that will give you the most for your membership. If you have any questions, please ask any member…they will be glad to make you feel comfortable in your new quilting home!
