Picture of the Guild ladies having fun at their retreat. At 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month, the Heart of Ohio Quilters Guild gathers at St. Leonard Catholic Church in Heath.

It all started 27 years ago when a teacher at Licking Valley High School, Denise Edmunds, moved to the area. Out of boredom, she decided to buy a cross-stitch duck project.

Clarita Denius and Buffy Whitehead walked into Licking Memorial Hospital on Wednesday carrying large bags of brightly colored quilts.

It was the third time they visited the hospital this year, bringing handmade gifts from the Heart of Ohio Quilters Guild to the hospital's youngest patients.

"It sure is a good feeling to bring them here," Denius said as she unloaded the quilts on a table.
